The National Moon-Sighting Committee made the decision at a meeting on Sunday evening at the office of the Islamic Foundation in the national mosque, Baitul Mukarram.

Countries in the Middle East including Saudi Arabia will celebrate Eid-ul-Azha on Oct 15, as the moon was sighted there on Saturday.

The day of Arafat, labelled as the most important day of the pilgrimage, will land on Oct 14, according to Saudi Arabia’s announcement, reports Al Arabia.

It falls on the 10th day of Zil-Hajj, marking the end of Hajj.

There are three government holidays before and after the Eid. This year, the weekly holidays (Friday and Saturday) have been added to it.

Hindus will celebrate Bijoya Dashami of Durga Puja on Oct 14, which is a public holiday.
